2011 Highands Street Festival
The list of 2011 of vendors, musicians, silent auction items, sponsors and donations is growing daily. Please check back often for updates and links.
Rebecca Lappa - 10am Rebecca is a prolific songwriter inspired by observations of life, historical events, and literary references. Her songs range from pop to folk, from explorations of the dark side of human nature to get-stuck-in-your-head catchy tunes about conquests and heroes. A classically trained singer, Rebecca’s expressive soprano is accompanied by her keyboard.
The O'Neills - 12pm Led by Highlands' resident
and historical enthusiast David Locky, the O'Neills are a Edmonton trio that plays traditional Celtic melodies.
The O'Neills have entertained Highlanders at a number of local events including the Highlands Pancake Breakfast and Highlands St. Paddy's Day
Pub Night.
Paula Kirman - 2pm A Western Canada-based singer/songwriter who writes and performs music with a message. Whether singing about life, love, social concerns, or spirituality, she focuses on the passion behind the words.
Paula Perro & No Foolin - 4pm A contemporary electric blues band that offers up a little “food for your soul”. Paula Perro’s raw & emotional vocals combined with the infectious energy of this seasoned band will remind you why the blues is so fabulous!
Brittney Grabill - 10am Brittney is a singer/songwriter finding her own voice and style, flavoured with pop and folk and just a hint of blues. She writes from interesting view points about relatable subjects. Whether performing one of her originals or her twist on a cover song, Brittney's passion is obvious.
Kessler Douglas - 1pm A talented young songwriter and engaging performer, Kessler regales his audience with the stories behind his songs and the music that inspires them. His songs often tell a story about someone's life - past or present. Kessler, a blues man who's a little bit folk, a little bit rock, and a little bit punk, steals the hearts of audiences at cafes, fundraisers and festivals alike.
Braden Gates - 3pm Braden is an Alberta Fiddle Champion turned songwriter. His mastery of the fiddle fretboard transfers seamlessly to guitar and mandolin to underpin his dirt folk storytelling style. Braden weaves homegrown original tales about stuff that matters. He is an active mentor and teacher who has toured extensively with Les Boucherons to promote the history of Canadian music in Alberta schools.
Kayla Patrick - 2pm With Kayla’s grace and charm, you would think she’s been on stage all her life, and you wouldn’t be far wrong. She has known from an early age that singing and performing would be a big part of her life. Look for relevant lyrics delivered with Kayla’s powerful yet soulful vocals
Trevor McNeely - 3pm
Trevor is a talented young folk rock songwriter. He combines thoughtful lyrics with his unique style of acoustic guitar and harmonica playing. Trevor fell in love with the remarkable originality of Neil Young and plays covers of his songs often, along with his own original material..
Doug Hoyer & Maureen Stop by Culinas to hear an acoustic set with Doug on guitar and ukulele accompanied by Maureen on trombone.
Tennis - 10am Ever want to have a swing at tennis? Here is your chance! The Highlands Community Tennis Association will have everything you need to play a set of this great game that is making a big comeback in the Edmonton Area.
Kettlebell - 12pm Join Lori Passmore of Empowered Living as she demonstrates the exciting power of Kettlebells, an efficient and highly effective exercise that is excellent for burning fat, building strong lean functional muscles and enhancing cardiovascular fitness.
Zumba - 2pm Dru Davids invites you to join her in an exhilarating and fast paced workout/dance demonstration that will have you feeling the vibe and moving to the groove. Zumba combines Latin and International music to great moves that will get your heart pumping and your blood moving.
Horse & Carriage Ride Enjoy the historical Highlands from the comfort of a horse drawn carriage courtesty of Mandolin Books & Coffee Co.
Anjl Horse & Carriage will be offering carriage rides from 1-4. They will be approximately 10-15 minutes in length with pick-up/drop-off in front of Mandolin Books & Coffee Company. The carriage will take a route around Highlands, down Ada Boulevard going past the Magrath Mansion and then back. Join us for this great experience!
Highlands Historical Walking Tour - 1pm The very knowledgeable and dynamic Highlands resident Yessy Byl will be leading a Historic Walking Tour of the Highlands.
Meet in front of the Magrath Mansion at 6240 Ada Blvd. $5.00 person. All proceeds will go to the Highlands Historical Society for our community work.
